What is AccessHome?

AccessHome (Resources for Rural Community Development) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit
corporation. AccessHome was founded in 1997 by Far Northern Regional Center (FNRC),
a service provider for persons with developmental disabilities (consumers) in the nine northeastern counties of the state (i.e. Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta,
Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity) See AccessHome's Service Area.

FNRC and other community service providers facilitate and implement a variety of lifestyle
services (i.e. vocational, medical, legal and social) on behalf of their consumers. FNRC
and parents of children with developmental disabilities created AccessHome with the
objective to develop and provide housing opportunities because of a critical unmet need for independent, affordable, and safe housing for persons with developmental disabilities.

AccessHome continues to develop and acquire permanent, affordable housing for
consumers by utilizing financial resources, including government agencies/programs, private lending institutions, and HOME funds utilizing our Community Housing Development
Organization (CHDO) certification. A CHDO is defined as a Community Housing Development Organization that is a non-profit, community based service organization that has obtained or intends to obtain staff with the capacity to develop affordable housing for the community it serves. A CHDO is organized under state and local law, with the provision to provide decent hosing that is affordable to low and moderate-income persons. This commitment is evidenced in the CHDO Charter, Articles of Incorporation, By-laws, or a resolution of the CHDO’s Board of Directors.

Throughout our service area, we currently own 16 single-family units and 9 community living homes. All of these units have been established for individuals/families with affordable housing needs. A percentage of units are reserved for persons with developmental disabilities.
